Intro to part 4
In the reading of intro to part 4 some things that caught my eye and interested me were when it talked about the most obvious expression of globalization and how it went to the europeans and there conquests and there conquer of the Americas. I found this interesting because I never really thought about this before. Another thing that I found really interesting about this reading form Strayer was about the slave trade and how it linked Africa permanently to the Western Hemisphere. Another thing that I did not know about until I read this was that the Europeans used the global silver trade to use the new metals from the "New World" to buy there way into ancient Asian trade route, which I thought was really interesting. Something else that I learned from this reading was that even tho the Americas ruled most of the worlds sea routes there military power in the mainland of Asia and Africa were very limited. In conclusion what I have learned from this reading was that even tho things changed and people migrated to the Americas and into the "New World" thing took a while before they really changed. For example male landowning aristocrats still stayed at the top of the social hierarchy. Some people, like in Europe, Islamic, and Chinese societies, wanted things to go back to the way that they were before rather than accepting and embracing what the new could bring.
