Chapter 22
In this chapter something that I learned was a lot more about who Nelson Mandela really was. For example some background information on him is that he was the leader of South African nationalists. Also that he was put on trial and convicted for the conspiracy to overthrow the apartheid government of his country and also for treason and some other things. Nelson Mandela's consequences for this was to be in jail for 27 years. Also throughout this chapter I learned a little about the way that the difficulty and struggling for peoples independence occurred. A lot of dates and events were something that I learned throughout this chapter especially with the time line that was presented. The time line really helped me to keep track of and to connect all of the events to the dates that they happened during. Some of these events were the Cuban revolution that happened in 1959, also the date that Gandi came back to to India after his time spent in South Africa. The Indian/ Pakistan independence took place in 1947, and the independence of Indonesia took place in 1949 when they had there triumph in china. The oil embargo that occurred in 1973. These were just a few of the Manny events that happened on this timeline that helped me to keep in track and memorize. Some of the more current events that happened on this time line were that in the Middle East had the Arab Spring that happened in 2011, the protest of the government by the young Turkish citizens happened in 2013. This one event that happened in history that I didn't know until I read this chapter and that really astonished me was that over 200 schoolgirls in northern Nigeria were captured by a radical Islamist conglomerate in 2014.
