Chapter 15

In chapter 15 I learned that a new way of thinking was starting to happen and it was know as the scientific revolution. I also learned that just like with christianity Europe was still spreading. During this time Martin Luther and the Catholic Church were having a big conflict. Something that I learned form this chapter that I did not really know a lot about before was that the Catholic Church was exposed for being corrupt by Martin Luther. This in turn then started a huge thing with everyone and many people converted to Protestants due to there anger with the Catholic Church. This then lead to a big increase in Protestants and eventually evolved into many Protestant churches all over in Europe. This in turn made the Catholic Church very upset and which then lead into what we now know as the 30 years war. This then resulted in territories being reorganized. Lastly something that I read during this chapter that even though I have already her of it happening before it was still just crazy to read was that when the spaniards came and took over the Aztecs they would force them to convert to christianity. This really makes me upset because even though I am a Catholic myself I still find it really disturbing that someone could just come in and destroy everything I once worshiped and forced me into believing in something else and making me forget my old beliefs.

Chapter 16 (Echoes though end)

Some important information that I did not learn and know about history until I read this chapter was that the abolishment of slaver occurred between 1780 and 1890. This time was when the eighteenth century enlightenment thinkers began to have their views about slavery turn highly.  There view became of the fact that it was extremely wrong to have slavery and that it was that every persons natural rights as a human were being violated. In the era of capitalism and industrialism the use of slavery was old and not a necessity. Also while reading this chapter I learned that the Haitian Revolution was a success. This revolution was in turn inspiring in a way to the extent of 3 more important rebellions took place in the British West Indies. Chapter 18

In this chapter I learned a little bit more about just how greedy the British really were. The British were involved in some sort of way with a lot of various different countries but it still was never enough for them, they were always left wanting more. Before reading this I already had some idea of just how bad the British really were but after reading this chapter I have learned just how messed up they really were. All that the British wanted from Imperialism more more and more. For example they were only looking to make a profit and continue to be greedy and want more and more wealth. This kind of got me starting to think that wouldn't eventually someone become perfectly content with the amount of wealth that they have, also if not then where does it ever end. Lastly when the colonial encounters occurred in Africa the British treated the African people very poorly and the British took way to much enjoyment out of the exploiting the African people.

Chapter 22

In this chapter something that I learned was a lot more about who Nelson Mandela really was. For example some background information on him is that he was the leader of South African nationalists. Also that he was put on trial and convicted for the conspiracy to overthrow the apartheid government of his country and also for treason and some other things. Nelson Mandela's consequences for this was to be in jail for 27 years. Also throughout this chapter I learned a little about the way that the difficulty and struggling for peoples independence occurred. A lot of dates and events were something that I learned throughout this chapter especially with the time line that was presented. The time line really helped me to keep track of and to connect all of the events to the dates that they happened during.
